NEW ORLEANS – The 2024 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl week-long events were a tremendous success, ending with Team Gaither defeating Team Robinson 10-6 at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The HBCU Legacy Bowl co-founder, Doug Williams, was pleased following Saturday’s culminating event. “I feel good,” Williams shared with HBCU Legends. “Number 1, with the product on the field, but also I feel good that people came out to see these young men. I think that’s what it’s all about. Everybody like a crowd, they got a chance to play in front of crowd. They got a chance to show what they can do.”

North Carolina Central quarterback Davius Richard was named the 2024 HBCU Legacy Bowl Offensive MVP by leading Team Gaither on the game’s opening 76-yard touchdown drive on five plays. Richard completed two passes for 52 yards and capped off the possession with a four-yard touchdown plunge to the left. Unfortunately, the 2024 Black College Co-Player of the Year suffered a lower right leg injury and was taken out of the stadium on a cart for further medical evaluation.
His representative, Rasheeda Liberty, confirmed with HBCU Legends that Richard’s diagnosis is “much better than what we thought initially” and “he’ll be back in action soon.”

Team Robinson’s defensive lineman, ZaReon Hayes, out of Alabama A&M, was a one-man wrecking crew with four sacks, earning him the 2024 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl Defensive MVP trophy. At the trophy presentation, Hayes told NFL Network’s Sherree Burress about his approach to the all-star game: “Just my motor for real. I just kept my hands going, technique-wise, and just get off the ball fast.”
Doug Williams concluded, “It’s been been a a great week. The weather has cooperated with us down here in New Orleans. It’s it’s been unbelievable, and we certainly appreciate that. Just the people coming out here makes us feel so great that things like this happen, and we’re going to keep working and get more people in there.”
